Happy 6 month birthday to Eleanor! Eleanor turned 6 months old last Friday, but since we went down to New York last weekend for Andy's brother's engagement party Eleanor's photo op had to wait until today. She didn't seem to mind :) To celebrate her 6 month birthday Eleanor had apples and plums mixed with her rice cereal today. She thought this was okay, which was a major improvement over her unequivocal rejection of pears on Saturday. She has also had sweet potato (loved it!) and butternut squash (Ummm...no).

With Fraser and Hammie I made almost all my own baby food. I did so not only because I like to be as in tune with what they are eating as I can be, and it is cheaper, but because it generates a lot less waste. However, with Eleanor I think I am just going to have to accept that jars of baby food with be part of her regular schedule. I'd like to make my own baby food (the potato and squash I did make) but I'd like to not go totally freaking crazy trying to do 45 things at once too (pears and apple/plums were from jars). I'm doing my best not to feel that Eleanor will bring this up later in life as proof that I didn't try as hard with the third child.
Eleanor's 6 month birthday also marks the end of the "grace period" I give myself after the birth of a baby to not worry about what I weigh. I figure the first 6 months are all about survival (theirs and mine) so exercise and diet just aren't on the radar screen. Now that we have reached the 6 month threshold however, it is time to return to reality and figure out how I can get back in shape. Today I managed 2 miles on the treadmill while my mother's helper Maggie was here. It's not the NYC marathon, but it is something. Onward and upward!
