It's a Girl!
It's official (well, as official as these things get). Andy and I went in for my 20 week ultrasound yesterday and, as the technician wasn't able to locate any "boy bits" she felt confident in her determination that we are having a girl! We are also apparently having a very active girl who refused to hold still for the ultrasound and actually did several complete flips during the exam. So much for our hope that a girl might bring a little calm and serenity to our runaway train of a household.
Speaking of runaway trains, I seem to have lost all semblance of control over Fraser recently. Today we had to take Hammie in to have his hearing checked and when it was time to go into the exam room Fraser threw a no holds barred fit in the waiting room. I mean lying on the floor, kicking his feet, screaming his head off fit because he didn't want to go into the exam room. He is now deliberately contrary when I ask him to do anything from eating his food to going upstairs for a diaper change. When I tell him it isn't nice to hit his brother he screams "It IS nice!" When he doesn't get what he wants he yells "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" I don't say this lightly, because he is my child and I love him, but what a jackass. I really really really hope this phase passes soon (this phase, by the way, makes the "Why?" phase look like a Caribbean vacation) because I have never wanted to slap someone so badly in my entire life.
Hammie also has discovered a new and entertaining activity, hitting and pushing Fraser. This is amazing to me since Fraser hits and pushes him right back, which always end in tears, but doesn't appear to deter Hammie in the slightest. Hammie doesn't seem to be trying to get away with anything, since he will hit Fraser while he knows we are watching, but seem to enjoy beating on his brother just for the sheer joy of it. This definitely doesn't bode well for the future.
Meanwhile I am fully in the "hungry" phase of my pregnancy where I pretty much wanted to eat anything that isn't nailed down. I wake up around 5 a.m. starving, but refuse to get up because I am determined to get as much sleep as possible. By 6:00, when I get up with Hammie, it is only his intolerable whine-fest if someone is eating when he isn't that makes me feed him breakfast first.
Well, the boys are "eating lunch" in the dining room right now, and since in the quite moments between incessant screaming I can hear silverware and cups hitting the floor, I guess it is time for some damage control. Today we have playgroup outside, so with any luck they will run around like the wild beasts they are and burn off enough energy to want to fall fast asleep by 7:30 tonight, which means should be asleep by 7:45.
