I have been meaning to write this particular blog entry for almost a month now, but it seems like every time I think about writing it Fraser senses my intention and promptly sets out to prove me wrong. That is to say, I want to write about how much Fraser's sleeping has improved, but every time I so much as consider what I want to say about said topic, Fraser either refuses to nap for an entire day or gets up 27 times that night. I'm starting to become rather concerned that Fraser may be able to read my mind. I'm quite sure this type of suspicion is a pretty big red flag to psychologists attempting to diagnose mental illness, so I don't think I'll mention it to anyone (except Fraser, of course, who already knows since I've already thought about it). In order to foil the mini-mind-reader's attempts to thwart my blogging, I will therefore use the word "dance" in the place of "sleep" for the remainder of this entry.

So, Fraser's dancing has really improved in the last month. One of the other mothers in my Moms group suggested a book called "Healthy Dance Habits, Happy Child" which I read just before Christmas. The author, Dr. Weissbluth, explains that babies Fraser's age need at least two, sometimes three, dances per day. He also explains that the first dance should occur around 9:00 a.m. and the second around 1:00. By the time Christmas rolled around I was so dance deprived I decided something had to be done. While I wasn't ready to try letting Fraser cry it out at night, I thought the daytime dance schedule sounded very promising. And so it began. It only took a few days for Fraser to get in the swing of the daytime dances, and as soon as he did his nighttime dance improved dramatically. Now he's usually only getting up twice a night, once around midnight to eat and once around 3 or 4 a.m. because he just wants some company.

Some of you might think that getting up twice a night every night isn't really anything to cheer about, but it still beats the hell out of getting up seven or eight times a night, every night. We certainly have a ways to go before Fraser can dance all the way through the night, but we have made a promising start!
